Hi everyone,
I'm having some fun and games with some pages in our WordPress CMS (Version 3.9.1). It seems like some authors have copied content into the CMS from Word including non-breaking hyphens. Wordpress ignores these in the editor and they can't be seen. However as soon as the text is exported via XLIFF for translation in SDL Studio regular hyphens occur are displayed in mid-sentence in each segment. I tried selecting everything, copying it back in again and saving/exporting the post again but Wordpress doesn't strip whatever it is that causes the problem.
Has anyone got any ideas how I can go about cleaning the hyphens up before starting work in Studio?
Thanks,
Daniel

The culprit was U+00AD (discretionary hyphen) Jul 2, 2014

Now that I have the unicode code point, I could replace this easily.
However perhaps I should now rephrase my question: is there a way of telling Studio 2014 SP1 to ignore certain characters when parsing the XML file without having to find and replace these discretionary hyphens? Either by entity, unicode code point or any other means.
Thanks,
Daniel

you can't ignore characters... Jul 2, 2014

... but perhaps you can replace them across the project in the source files before translating? Perhaps you can share a small sample of this?

Regards

Solution: pre-processing files Jul 3, 2014

Hi Paul,
As you said the best solution is replacing the characters across the project beforehand - we'll use the Wordpress Editor parser to prevent this and several other special characters which have slipped in.
Thanks,
Daniel
