Negative numbers in segment count -- how to get rid of it

I'm using Trados 2011. My word/segment count is set up to count segments.
Today I opened a project from a client and discovered that the segment count is now negative. In other words, if the file has 100 segments and 3 of them are translated, then the count reads "-3" instead of "100" (or, instead of "97" if I filter for untranslated segments). How can I fix this so that it tells me "97" again?
The count "-3" is not affected by the filter. If I filter the view for only untranslated segment, or for all segments, the count is still "-3".
