I am working on Trados Studio 2011. I have spent the whole day reviewing a Trados project. The file is big and Trados was running very slowly. It crashed and now I can't re-open the file. I get the following error message:

"Unexpected end of file has occurred. The following elements are not closed: value, props, tag, tag-defs, header, file, xliff. Line 10766, position 1.

I have tried recreating the file from the TM, but a lot of the segments hadn't been confirmed so I have lost almost all of my work. Does anyone have any idea of how I may be able to rescue the .sdlproj or .sdlxliff file? Is there a way of repairing it or will I just have to do it all again?

I should mention that the file was sent to me as a Trados package which I converted into a project.

Truncated file? A way to restore. Jul 10, 2014

Hello Rosalind,

I could only assume that Trados crashed during a disk write operation and your file was truncated as a result. You can try to restore it:

1. Get your original SDLXLIFF file. (Change the extension of your Trados package to ZIP and you will be able to open the package with your default archiver.).

2. Open your corrupted and original SDLXLIFF files with a plain text editor (not Word). Notepad might work but I recommend downloading and installing Notepad++ (http://notepad-plus-plus.org) - it is free and handles large files and different encoding systems much better.

3. Compare your original and corrupted files and verify that your working file is indeed truncated. Then you can copy the missing part from the original file and append it to your working file. Save the file and try to open it.

If this works you will only have to check the end of the file. I might be wrong with my diagnosis of course but I think it is worth a shot if nobody comes up with a better solution.
