I just realised that I am only able to open files between my "registered" source and target languages (I don't actually remember choosing them at the time...). This seems pretty ridiculous since the Trados Certification Course I've just started recommends having German as a target language and I would have no other reason to have German selected.

I noticed this old thread (http://www.proz.com/forum/sdl_trados_support/148435-how_to_change_default_5_languages.html) which for some reason I can't reply to. Could anyone let me know if I have to reinstall the software just so I can do the certification course?

Hello
If you have freelance license you can choose among 5 free language pairs. These are chosen at installation.
If you do need to change them - I believe the only way is to 1) Deactivate the licenses 2) un-install and 3) re-install the product.
You will then be able to choose 5 language that you can then mix and match.

Kind regards
Massi - From SDL

Maybe that should be noted when purchasing the training Jul 17, 2014

Either that or SDL should allow more language pair sample files. It makes no sense to have sample files for English > German when the majority of people buying the software won't select that language pair. But whatever.
