Hi there, I am starting a new topic on this because I have spent months with no solution that fits my case. See more Hi there, I am starting a new topic on this because I have spent months with no solution that fits my case. In the past 6 months I have had several occurrences of a prompt from 'Dependency file not found' when handling projects in Trados. I have read all workarounds, nothing actually solve my problem. - modifying files manually - impossible if you have a project with over 100 files. - manually relink files - impossible, since files are somehow deleted - ignore and keep on working - verifying features are somehow corrupted or you cannot create a preview or save as anymore, plus you get very upset engineers going mad after you deliver the return package. facts: I am not a Norton user, so I cannot simply disable any automatic cleanup routine I cannot figure out what routine or what procedure is causing temporary files to being deleted or vanishing from folder I have tried to get help from Microsoft also with no success, they suggest that I move my temp folder to another location- but how that affects Trados then? How do I know Trados will suddenly start to use the new path location?? Right now I have a project with 126 files, all with depedency file lost. No suddenly energy cut, no project open on editor for an entire day (!). Hundreds of clicks to ignore the prompt and the feeling I will have a big headache while returning it to client. What can possibly and really solve the problem? - How could I prevent files in this folder to be deleted? (Windows permissions are set in a way that if I deny Modify permission, it seems I deny also any reading OR writing, which could cause Trados to not use this folder anymore, - How could I 'tell' Trados to use another folder path? WHY Trados does not have this folder set into its own program folder? I have read every possible forum related post, including unofficial, nothing really answer my questions or provide me an ultimate solution, neither from Microsoft nor from Trados side. Many thanks in advance for any tip that could end my nightmare... Best, S Hoepfner ▲ Collapse

1. Disable Hibernation, if active. I can't say that this is the cause, but Studio has been known to have issues with Hibernation at times. 2. You probably receive this message because the temporary files have been deleted. Usually it is because you have some kind of software running a periodic clean up routine, maybe even Windows' own Disk Cleanup utility. You can check if Disk Cleanup is running periodically from the Windows Task Scheduler. If not, try to think about any maintenanc... See more 1. Disable Hibernation, if active. As a precaution, always make sure t o save the work and close Studio when you take a longer break and overnight.

yes that's right, and I also suffered many times, when even mistaken I ran a clean and temporary folder is emptied, I could not find any solution but have to re-create the project, and saved translation from TM, I had to re-start from the point, when the issues started.
Hi there, @Shai, not sure why my answer was not posted! strange... anyway, I do not have hibernate active. @Saghir, sorry to hear you too have this issue, I do know that this happens because temp files are deleted. Unfortunately, reloading the project, which I have done before, it is a terrible solution when you have a large project, since Trados does not recognize 100% of your previous work, segments with plenty of placeable for instance, are not correctly reloaded from TM.... I have tried virtually everything... The question is, if this so-called temp files are so vital to Trados to work well, how come they can be left so unprotected? From the Microsoft side, I got the disappointing answer that there is no way to prevent deletion by, for example, change folder permissions, this is because if you block permission to Modify, that automatically blocks permission to Write and even Read this folder, causing it to be inaccessible to Trados. From Trados, well, no answer. I find frustrating, to say e least that is up to me to mind natural causes, like power cut in order to work with this software. And even worse, when there is no power cut, no hibernate, no Norton installed, you are left just hoping it will not happen another time. But then, couple of projects later, issue strikes me again. I can neither change the path to where this precious files are located in Trados, nor even better monitoring them, btw the alphanumeric names created for them are just another part of the challenge, cause I have thought as a paranoid measure to locate them every time the project starts and keep making a backup... not a good answer to the problem. I wish Trados could acknowledge some kind of responsibility for this issue and provide us with a definite solution instead of me trying to remind myself to not leave your project files open while you go for a coffee. ▲ Collapse

did you look at SDL's KB | Aug 18, 2014 |
Hi, you could go to SDL's KB: http://kb.sdl.com (known problem base). Enter the error message: 'Dependency file..' (not nightmare!) There is an entry corresponding to your error message, with symptoms and a proposed solution. I hope it helps Madeleine
