I think this happened after a system restore...

An unexpected error has occurred while loading the global plug-in services.

Value cannot be null.
Parameter name: license


I've googled a bit and tried all the steps laid out here

and I've tried rebooting.

No luck, still same behaviour.

*grumble*

I'm willing to play around a bit more, but if it refuses to work I'll try uninstalling/reinstalling Studio (what else?)

feeling helpless Sep 10, 2014

Well I've waited a day with a non-usable program, and there hasn't been a peep from SDL Support. Please let me know if my expectations are misaligned, but for the most expensive CAT Tool on the market, it would be nice to have a bit of help when the program won't even start.

Looks like I'll be spending some time uninstalling/reinstalling everything.

... log a case rather than wait. SDL Support only occasionally review this forum. Go to the Knowledgebase;

Then go to the tab called Solution Finder ( http://kb.sdl.com/?cid=23&tab=sf ) and now go here;

Download & Installation Problems
- I use SDL Trados Studio and/or SDL MultiTerm 2009, 2011 or 2014
-- I receive an error message during installation
--- I have disabled UAC during installation / I do not have Win Vista 7/8
---- None of the error messages match my issue / I tried the suggested resolution....

So if you have tried everything suggested, when you get to this point you'll be presented with a form to contact support. Complete all the fields in the form making sure your email address is entered correctly or nobody will be able to get back in touch with you.

Also use the Chrome browser to log the case if you have it; you'll get more success in completing the form.

Hi Paul,

Well thanks for your reply, it's certainly better than nothing. I'm starting to panic though, after uninstalling/rebooting/reinstalling Studio with no problems whatsoever, I still get the same annoying error message.

I've logged a case as you suggested and it warns me "We will try our best to respond to your request within 3 working days." -- so I shouldn't expect to be operational until Monday?

This is rather urgent, so I certainly hope we can fix it within 3 working hours!

Great news! Here came the reply from SDL:


Thank you for logging a case with SDL.

In order to fix this issue please download and install the latest Cumulative Update 6.1 for SDL Trados Studio 2014.
You should find instructions on how you can manually download it by accessing our Knowledge Base article:

I just installed it but it did not resolve my issue. I still cannot load files into new projects and receive that same error message, then SDL Trados Studio 2014 crashes.
