A client has sent me a huge bunch of XML files, where the source text is between one set of tags and the transtation is to go in between another set of tags, like this

[text-en]>This is the source text to be translated[/text-en]
[text-es]This is where the same text in Spanish resides[/text-es]
[text-nl]And this is where my translation has to go[/text-nl]

Can I do this in Trados, and if so, how?

Can you show a complete file? You can replace actual values with dummy ones. Just keep the whole XML structure.

The only way to do this... Nov 11, 2014

... if the file is not an XLIFF file, is to make sure the source text is also in here:

<text-nl>And this is where my translation has to go</text-nl>

You then create a custom xml filetype to extract only the text between the <text-nl> elements and the translation will automatically replace it in the correct place.

Paul
