Unexpected exception when configuring file converter for task 'Export for External Review'.

I received an SDLXLIFF file from a translator that I must edit. I want to do so via the External Review feature. However, when I use that function, I get the following error message:
Unexpected exception when configuring file converter for task 'Export for External Review'. Length cannot be less than zero. Parameter name: length.
I've tried changing the various statuses of the segments, I tried rebooting the computer, and I tried creating a new project and addding the SDLXLIFF file to it. None of this solves the problem. I don't have the original file, and the SDLXLIFF file has both new segments and TM-leveraged segments, so I can't simply re-create the translation uncorrupted by decoding the DOCX file from the SDLXLIFF file.
Any ideas what I can try? I'm using Trados 2011 on Windows 7.
