Hello,

I'm a new SDL Trados Studio 2014 user. I'm currently translating an Excel file where each Excel line represents a segment on Trados. However, I would like to have a new source segment after each comma. How can I do that? I am using a TM and I have already translated half of the document which must remain unchanged.

I will appreciate your help. Thank you.

Thank you. I changed the rules on the TM but the source segments are still the same. Perhaps I'm doing something wrong.

I also found this on http://producthelp.sdl.com/SDL%20Trados%20Studio/client_en/Ref/A-G/AE_SegRul.htm

Break characters / Select the character that indicates the end of a sentence. The available characters are:
. Full stop (period)
! Exclamation mark
? Question mark
: Colon
; Semi-colon
Tab.

Does that mean I can't use commas as break characters?

Yes, but that would segment all text by comma (which may be what the OP wanted). What if during the translation you hit a number of cells (say, 100) that you want segmented by comma, but you don't want the entire file segmented like that, and you don't want to manually segment each existing segment over and over and over. Is there a trick for that?

Nope... Mar 12, 2015

.. other than to save the target file based on what you had done so far and then hide all the rows you had already translated. Then add this new file to your Project with the new TM and finish it off.
