Hello

I cannot see a preview in SDL Trados when I am translating. The error message tells me it is a problem with OVF because it is from an untrusted folder. This might be because my original was downloaded. I am not really sure.

Very helpfully SDL give the address of a website to help with this problems.

I have got as afar as creating a new key but cannot see where to assign the values. I have searched for how to configure a key but i am a bit lost to be honest. I was incredibly pleased that I managed to create the key and then really disappointed that I couldn't put all the values in as I don't know how.

This is what I am trying to do

For Office 2010

You can manually set the registry entries by using the following values:
Value: DisableEditFromPV
Type: REG_DWORD
Default value: 0
Description: When Office File Validations fails
0 = Enable Edit in Protected View.
1 = Disable Edit in Protected View.
Add the DisableEditFromPV REG_DWORD to any or all the following registry subkeys to disable Edit in Protected View in Office 2010:

So far I have created:-

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\14.0\Excel\Security\FileValidation

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\14.0\PowerPoint\Security\FileValidation

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\14.0\Word\Security\FileValidation

Now what?

How do I do the other bits?

I have tried and clicked everything that looks click-able but I am really stuck.

I would appreciate anyone's help.

Thank you

Hi Louise,

If you want to modify the system registry you can follow these steps:

You may want to read this article: Microsoft Security Advisory: Microsoft Office File Validation for Office 2003, 2007 Office, and Office 2010: April 12, 2011 (http://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/2501584)

Scroll down to For Office 2010 and look for Enable Edit in Protected View

Is that done? Mar 16, 2015

Thank you so much Linh Dan

The page you linked at the bottom is the one that SDL give you to go to. I am not techi though - far from it really.

I have followed your instructions and now have that part done. SO it looks like I have followed these instructions so far

Value: DisableEditFromPV
Type: REG_DWORD
Default value: 0

Do I need to do anything to follow the rest of the instructions?

Description: When Office File Validations fails
0 = Enable Edit in Protected View.
1 = Disable Edit in Protected View.

I had another look at that page link and can only find the instructions that I am trying to follow to disable PV for 2010. The earlier versions have a "Fix it for me" button.

Have been able to generate the preview for your document in Trados Studio?

Not yet Mar 16, 2015

I have not yet been able to see power point previews although I can see word documents. I haven't tried with Excel.
It was because of a power point presentation that I tried this function and realised that I couldn't see it.

Please note that you have to repeat the "registry hack" for Excel and PowerPoint.

Thank you for all your help an especially the images. I didn't do anything for Word - it just worked.

I am still not seeing Power point but I will continue trying. It downloads OK so I can fix the problems then if I can't get tit to work.
