Not opening file hexadecimal Studio 2014, not even text editor

When trying to open an sdlxliff-file I was working on, I get the message "unexpected error, hexadecimal value 0x00 is an invalid character". I have read many posts with suggestions, but thing is I cannot even open the file. They suggest to open it in a text editor to locate corrupt character, but when I do so, it's either completely empty or full of zeros. Has anyone tried this?
