Hello everyone

I've posted on this issue before, but I still have this problem. Trados 2015 doesn't update the target text when I perform updating from bilingual review, and gives no error messages. What exactly is required for this feature to work in Trados 2015? Do I, perhaps, have to have a certain version of MS Word installed on the same computer as Trados? (I have both versions 2003 and 2010 installed, and I don't edit the DOCX file in Word 2003 because I know then Trados can't update from it)

Samuel

Works just fine Oct 16, 2015

Hi Samuel,

I also have both 2003 and 2010 versions of Word installed and operating in parallel.
I haven't noticed any problems with docx files in 2003.

AFAIK, this is not related to anything, other than, perhaps, the preview function.

The only requirement I am aware of for update from review is leaving the format of the exported file as [filename].review
You can change the file name, but not the review extension.

HTH,
Sandra

Trados doesn't complain about Word 2003 either Oct 16, 2015

When I used Trados 2011 in the past, and I tried to update from a DOCX file that was edited in Word 2003, Trados gave an error message.

However, I just tried doing that with Trados 2015 (i.e. update from a file that I edited in Word 2003), and Trados gave no warnings or error messages whatsoever (but... it didn't update the target column either). This leads me to suspect that Trados isn't actually reading the DOCX file (if it did, it would have seen that I had edited that one test file in Word 2003).

Which process? Oct 16, 2015

Dear Samuel,

Are you using the integrated batch tasks, or the SDLXLIFF converter (used to be available from the OpenExchange website, but now is integrated in Studio)?

Regards,
Erik

I use the built-in batch tasks. I right-click the project (or individual files) and select the option to export to bilingual review, and then later to update from bilingual review again.

Strange Oct 16, 2015

That's strange, then. As far as I know, the batch tasks don't offer any options to chose from, unlike the SDLXLIFF converter. I still use it sometimes (exactly because of the options the batch tasks are missing). I remember experiencing what you describe when the converter settings were set to update only segments with tracked changes, while I had switched track changes off while reviewing the file.

You may want to try the SDLXLIFF converter and see if that works.

Apart from that, I can't think of anything else at the moment, other than double-checking if you save to and open from the correct folders, as the Studio folder setup tends to be unnecessary complicated imho.

Here's how I do the updating (right-click the file or project, and select this):

One can also use the "update from bilingual review" button on the Review tab when you open a specific file.

When exporting for bilingual review, there are no options to choose from, no. When updating, I can choose what the status of the updated segments must be, and there is a checkbox to create a backup of the SDLXLIFF file.

No complicated, but confusing and inconsistent. I have learnt my lesson early on: double-check that you're using the folder you think Trados is using, and don't assume that if Trados opens a project that that project is the one that you were trying to open.

Not necessary to save in any particular folder Oct 16, 2015

...other than the one you create or select for this purpose.

I also use the Batch Tasks for this.

After you open the Update from Bilingual Review wizard you have to add your update file, by pressing Add -> Specific Review Document, then select your review file. In that window you should have two documents: the project file and the review document.

This is somewhat confusing.

Sandra

Extremely frustrating Dec 28, 2017

Dear Colleagues,

Happened the same with me just now. I exported the document for review, I copied the reviewed docx to the exact location. Trados even confirmed "review doc successfully added" and the little progress bar filled, no errors... but the target segments are unchanged.

Never had such issue with "the other CAT Tool"...

Now I have to type the changes in...

In case anyone found a stable working solution, please share.

Thank you.
Kindest regards,
Ivan
