I'm using Trados 2014 and from what I can see, there is no way of translating .epub files without converting them to another file format first. In doing so, the formatting of the text will change and therefore the translated file would be formatted differently to the source document.

Does anybody have experience of translating .epub files in Trados and if so, how did you approach it?

Handling EPUB files Oct 31, 2015

Hello Neil,

I never translated any EPUB files, but I have some experience of creating and editing them. An EPUB file is in fact a zipped archive containing multiple HTML and image/audio/video/font files and several metadata files. If you change file extension from EPUB to ZIP you will be able to open the file with WinZip, WinRAR, or any similar application. You can then translate HTML files and use the generic XML filter if you need to translate any of the metadata. Then replace the old files with translated ones, change file extension back, and here you go. If you need to change anything in file structure and/or links afterwards (I suppose you might in case of any problems unintentionally caused by the changes in the files), you can use Sigil, a free multi-platform EPUB editor ( ).

Best regards,
