Error message when opening Trados Studio 2014

Studio does not open anymore. The following error messages pops up instead:

Dienst Sdl.Translation Studio.Alignment Editor. konnte nicht gestartet werden

Anybody any idea why and what to do?

Similar problem - Windows 10? Jan 12, 2016

This seems like the problem I had a while ago after upgrading to Windows 10.

however, an upgrade to Studio 2015 seems to have been the only solution which worked so far.

Let's see, if anyone else has found another solution to the problem.

Studio 2014/Windows 10 upgrade. Jan 12, 2016

Hi Katja,

We are looking in to this and trying to find a resolution.
This is an isolated issue that affects 2014 users and have upgraded to Windows 10-
the issue seems to stem from one of the dll's. in a recent Windows 10 patch/update but appears to be elusive as it affects only a very small number of users.

We had similar issues in locating an issues years ago- which then turned out we SDL were sharing the same file as a printer/camera provider.

I would therefore suggest one (or more of the following options)

1) Go to installed programs in Windows 10- find Studio 2014 and right click- run repair.
2) Download the free 30 day trail from the www.translationzone.com to see if this runs fine.
3) Log a support ticket (FREE of charge) via your SDL account or
Go to the Knowledgebase;

Then go to the tab called Solution Finder and now go here;

Download & Installation Problems
- I use SDL Trados Studio and/or SDL MultiTerm 2011, 2014 or 2015
-- I receive an error message during installation
--- I have disabled UAC during installation / I do not have Win Vista 7/8
---- None of the error messages match my issue / I tried the suggested resolution....

Please let me know how you get on.

thanks for your message. I tried the repair option, but that did not work for me.

Can I download and install the trial version without uninstalling my current license?

Try this... Jan 12, 2016

... as it may be related to to Visual C++ 2010 x86 runtimes being affected by a recent windows update. Please close Studio and then reinstall Microsoft Visual C++ 2010 from this location:

c:\ProgramData\Package Cache\SDL\Dependencies\2010_vcredist_x86.exe

Then restart your computer and reinstall Studio.

Thanks a lot. I reinstalled it from the path you provided and it did a repair of the VisualBasics and now it works again!
