Hello,

We are four people with a common server. From time to time we have a big project (about ten documents) that we share.
Person A create project and the others (B, C and D) open the project from the shared server and translate the documents attributed to them.
Everything is going fine.

Now we receive a new version of a source file that we haven't begun to translate yet.
Person A add new version of the file (command "add file", and then "batch task>prepare") and deletes the old version.
Problem : people B, C and D do not see any change in their projects (the old file is still there, although it cannot be translated) BUT and this is the real problem, the new file added is not seen at all. Even with taking the project off the list, restarting trados and opening the project again.
So is there any way to refresh/update a common project?

thanks in advance to anybody who can kindly put me in the picture

Not sure if nobody answered because nobody share projects on a common server or if because nobody knew how to solve this...

But, in case anybody has the same problem, we found out that the option "prepare without project TM" had been used instead of "prepare" while running the batch task on the added document... that's why the other people opening the project couldn't see it.

Reopen the project may solve this problem Mar 10, 2016

Hi

Glad you managed to solve the problem.

But let me point out that this way of working (several translators working on the same project in a shared folder) is not officially supported. It may work flawlessly in most situations, but unfortunately not always. Problems may arise when someone makes changes to the project and someone else has this project already in his list in his Studio. His copy of Studio may not be updated with the latest changes made to the project file (.SDLPROJ). One way to avoid such problems is to remove the project in the list and reopen it to ascertain that the latest state of the project is read.

Walter

Thanks for your answer.
We all have the same copy of studio since we are all working on computers maintained by the same IT department (we are part of the same enterprise). So hopefully this won't be a problem.

As for this method of working not being supported, it's because since we already spend money to have a common server for everybody (the whole headquarters, not just the translators), the IT department don't see why we should pay a supplementary sum of money to SDL to be on THEIR servers, so for example we use a file-based translation memory on our common server instead of the "official" server-based translation memory on SDL servers. (I understand their reasoning, although it is not practical for us sometimes).
