Recently I have translated a small text for my client and as there was no requirement to use Trados, I did this translation in my own large TM, which I use for all translations in this field.
Now the client asked me to send them TM for this job (if possible).

I think I have earlier seen some similar topic in this forum (about extraction of certain segments, etc.), but can't find it now.

Can anyone please tell me if there is a way to create this small TM for my client?

Create a new TM... Mar 11, 2005

Do you still have a copy of the uncleaned document? Then you just have to clean it into a new TM.

As an alternative you could take the original document (which you probably have kept...?) and translate it automatically, using your "big" TM. Then you change to a new TM and clean the translation - voilà!icon_smile.gif

Best regards,
Antje

Send pre-cleanup document, or create TM from cleanup Mar 11, 2005

Hi Natalya,
You could send your client a copy of the pre-cleanup document; alternatively:

- create a copy of the .bak document;
- rename that copy to end .doc;
- create an empty TM; and
- run a cleanup, updating the TM.

Clean-up Mar 11, 2005

Hi Natalya,

Simply create a new, empty TM and clean-up the small file.

Best regards,
Stefan

Use a filter Mar 11, 2005

You could create a date filter in WB File/Maintenance.../Filters (where you can check the results in a search), save this filter and use it in File/Export...
HTH,
Harry

Thank you all for your inputs!

I cleaned up the document through a new TM but there is still 0 translation units shown in the properties of this new TM?
Did I miss something?

Open the TM in a TM editor, sort TUs by date, then simply grab all the TUs which match the window of time in which you did the translation. Might not work in some TM apps, though.

Since there were only 3 pages I have "translated" my unclean document with new TM, which I had from previous translation, and my new TM finally filled with required translation units.

But I'd still appreciate if someone could explain what was wrong with my TM. May be some settings?

Cleanup settings Mar 11, 2005

Hi again,
Check your settings in Tools - Cleanup - Changed translations: the radio button should be set to Update TM.

Best, Ralf
