Importing Excel glossary into Multiterm Thread poster: Natalya Zelikova
|
I have Excel glossary with multiple sheets (2 columns in which - source and target) to be imported in Multiterm for translation of a Word file in Trados. I am doing this for the first time and can't find the way to import it. Should I convert Excel file first in required import format? I seem to can't understand how I can do this in MultiTerm Migration Tool, which I have to use for this, if I'm not mistaken... Would appreciate quick reply, as it's rather urgent.

Hi, Natalia I'm afraid I can't help you. I've Excel 97, thus all my experience with the Trados Convert tool does not apply to your case. I'm sure someone else will help you. Regards Clarisa

Also, from the Trados Multiterm user guide: Your Microsoft Excel file (*.xls must comply with the following preconditions: * All data must be located n the first sheet in the book. * The first row or line in the file must contain the information from the header field of each column. * No empty columns should appear between the columns that contain data.If the file contains an empty column between columns that contain data, the conversion process will stop at the empty column. Be sure to remove any empty columns of this kind before you run the conversion.

Hi Natalya, The import routines for different versions of MultiTerm (5.x, 6.0.x, 6.2.0.x) differ fundamentally - therefore, could you please specify which version you're using? (Full version number including the 'build number', please - got to Help - About... to find out.) Best regards, Ralf

Hi again, Natalya Zelikova wrote: Hi, Ralf MultiTerm iX (6.0.1.209) Still can't find the way... I'm not surprised, as the first version of MTiX did not support the import of Excel files. This was replaced in 2003 by version 6.2.0.267 (meanwhile upgraded to build 287), which incorporates MultiTerm Convert. This utility lets you convert Excel files. For details, check FAQ##28-30 in the Support section of the Trados website. Best regards, Ralf
