Studio 2011: How do I set the specific XML file type when adding a translatable file?

Studio supports several XML file types out of the box. I also have one custom XML type. Is it possible to specify the specific XML type explicitly when adding a file? It looks like it worked for me automagically once (auto-recognition?) but I'm worried that I might not have such luck in all future cases.

If you add a file you get a window before import where you can set the project options, just check the File Type and modify what you want, I think it will all be kept until you change it again. For future projects you can create a new project based on a past one which will keep the settings, or create a project template.
