300-page manual, 115k words, German to Italian, MS Word.

After translating in Trados Studio 2015, I save target as MS Word, but in the target the last 20 pages are still in German (source language).

How can I solve this without:

(a) manually copying-and-pasting from Trados to Work (too cumbersome - lots of tags, formatting, hidden text) or

(b) splitting the source document (would mess up table of contents)

?

No satisfactory solution Feb 16, 2017

I've seen this problem before in Studio 2014 and as far as I can remember there is no satisfactory solution to it because the issue relates to specific features in Word. You could try saving the Word document as RTF and converting it back to docx after translation, but you may lose hyperlinks and other cross references within the document when doing that, so you would have to check on that again and possibly insert any of those manually.

It might be best to contact SDL support directly.

I know... Feb 16, 2017

It doesn't sound very promising, but that's the only options I can think of at the moment. Maybe someone else has a better solution?

I know that all older versions of Studio have this kind of problem if the original file has some special formatting that Studio cannot read correctly. The result is then what you are seeing now.
A possible workaround that has worked sometimes is: Locate the last segment in your sdlxliff file where the translation is inserted correctly in your exported erroneous doc; then go in the Editor, delete this translation and copy source to target; maybe repeat with the segment above and below. Save. Now the export should work (according to some responses of similar problems in this forum).
There are a lot of posts with this problem related here in the Trados forum, try searching with some keywords. I don't think there is a final solution because I would have saved it in my notes.

I hope this works for you,
Mike

Bingo. It worked. (Those last pages still not appearing in the TOC, but that's a different story).
