Hi,

I'm using Studio 2014, I received a package and after translating one of the files, I can't generate a target translation. Here's the message I get :

The filter definition of 'Wordprocessing ML v.2" could not be found or could not be used to create a generator.

Any idea what it could be?

Thanks,

What format is the source file? Feb 21, 2017

You can normally see what format the source file is, as the extension usually is included just before the .sdlxliff extension. If it for instances says .imd, the source file would be Indesign, in which case you would not be able to create the target file as you don't have the program.

Usually you would not be expected to create a target file, only returning the package itself, and then the customer would take care of the target file.

If you have the program in question, I could not say what might be wrong in your case, I'm afraid.
Roy

Doc file Feb 21, 2017

Thanks Roy. It's a doc file. I know I would normally return the package but I need to do a partial delivery. I think I'll just send the sdlxliff file and the client will take care of it.

Perhaps a newer doc format which Studio 2014 cannot handle? Feb 21, 2017

Office has been upgraded, and it may be the latest version uses a doc format which 2014 cannot handle. I'm not sure. Of course, if you have the original, you could test out if it imports fine into Studio.

Maybe important... Feb 21, 2017

I don't know to what extend this is important because I'm not working with packages, but if your client creates files (and sends you in a package) using a file type filter that is found only in a recent version of Trados (in your case after Trados 2014), then I would advice you NOT exporting to a final file but returning the sdlxliff file(s) and asking your client to do the final export with the NEWER Trados software. AFAIK: SDLXLIFF files are backward-compatible, but the export from them may NOT be compatible, thus impossible. That's a guess from me, I'm not 100% sure, a more expert user will have to confirm/deny this.

Greets,
Mike

Have you tried this solution? Feb 21, 2017

Workaround: Make the legacy Word 2007-2013 file type default against the new Word 2007-2016 file type:

1. Go to File > Options > File Types.
2.In the File Types list, move the Word 2007-2013 file type above the Word 2007-2016 file type by selecting it and using the Move Up button.

The Create Regulator Review Bundle will work for all the new *.docx that you open. Previously open files that still use the Word 2007-2016 file type, should be added to a new project to work.
