Hello all Does anyone know of a way to get Trados/TWindow to automatically match the formatting of the source text when it finds matches in the memory - other than using the format painter every time you open a segment that has already been translated? EG. 1 - I open a French segment in my Powerpoint translation. 2 - The source text is Red, in 20-point Arial. 3 - I translate the segment to English and save to memory. 4 - I reopen the segment late... EG. 1 - I open a French segment in my Powerpoint translation. 2 - The source text is Red, in 20-point Arial. 3 - I translate the segment to English and save to memory. 4 - I reopen the segment later and my translation appears, but the text is Black, in 10-point Times Roman. 5 - I have to use the Format Painter to restore formatting before closing the segment. Is there no way to have translated segments match the formatting of the source text when they are retrieved from memory? If not, then I'm wasting way too much time reformatting every time I open a segment! This is looking like a CAT Tool that definitely doesn't purr... Hi Mools, Which Trados version are you using? Can't you use TagEditor instead? Best regards, Ralf | | | Mools Local time: 02:39 Russian to English + ... TOPIC STARTER Tag Editor vs TWindow | Apr 15, 2005 |

Hi again, As for Tag Editor - I've never used it with PPT presentations, but have since read a few postings on the subject. I will try it with the next presentation (I have two for the same company). Why not try it on this one? However, I've heard conflicting reports on the "Tag Editor vs TWindow" debate. Some say Tag Editor is slower than TWindow - surely that can't be possible! I find TE far easier to handle than T-Window. The only thing to bear in mind is that the initial conversion to TTX format may take several minutes. Best, Ralf | |

Hope you're out there Ralf... Further to my last posting, I switched to TE to translate the PPT files. You were right, it is much easier than TWindow! Now I've hit a major stumbling block. I've searched the forms and taken recommended precautionary measures, ie. - Applied the latest patch - Reregistered Trados - Used Detect & Repair in PowerPoint But no luck! On top of that, somewhere along the line I've lost everything in Microsoft Outlook (contacts, emails, etc.)... Things are going from bad to worse. But I still prefer TE to TWindow. Any help would be REALLY appreciated! ▲ Collapse | | | Ralf Lemster Germany Local time: 02:39 English to German + ... Some suggestions | Apr 18, 2005 |
Hi again, Here's what Trados Support kindly suggested: "31104 Key already exists in ..." This could indicate a corrupt TM - reorganising the TM might do the trick, although to be on the safe side, I would suggest exporting, re-creating and importing the TM. Looks like that's a 'virtual pint' I owe you Ralf! I had already tried the export/recreate approach to no avail, and had even tried shortening the file name, just in case. Your second link pointed me in the right direction. THE FIX IS AS FOLLOWS... The following tag was the problem: (which was used to create and two-way arrow in the text) It seems the ampersand (&) within the tag is the bug - the Trados people are working on a fix for this issue. I deleted the relevant tags (both in source and target segments) and the cleanup ran smoothly - now just need to copy and paste the arrows back post-cleanup. Thanks a million Ralf. You have just saved somebody's day (not for the first time, if other postings are anything to go by!)... Hope I can return the favour one day. ▲ Collapse | | | To report site rules violations or get help, contact a site moderator: You can also contact site staff by submitting a support request » TWindow for PPT - Format Painter Finger...
