Hi all,

We've noticed that the same file, analysed against an empty TM, gives totally different word counts in Trados 5 compared to 6.5.

In our case, the count was 14% higher in 6.5.

Is there any logical explanation to this? Did Trados change their criteria for what is counted, improve the recognition of text boxes or layouted text, or what?

Did anyone get in touch with Trados for an official answer to what's going on?

Thanks a lot!

Jan Sunström

Hi Jan,

if I remember correctly higher versions consider words separated by apostrophes or dashes as 2 words while previous versions didn't.

While the actual analysis algorithm remains a trade secret of Trados, there are other factors as well that may influence segmentation and/or analysis.

For instance, the Penalties should be set to the same values (1/2/2/3/15, by default) in both programs. If they're not, results may wildly vary (I've had a similar case before.)
