Working directly with .sdlalign files in Studio 2014

This is basic stuff, so bear with me please.

I have received a batch of pre-aligned .sdlalign files from a Client who wants them checked and edited for import in a provided TM. However, almost all help on this topic I have found assumes aligning from scratch, i.e. with source and target files, not starting off with an alignment file.

Having opened one of the .sdlalign files in the alignment tool, I soon realized I can't connect any segment pairs, and I assume this is because I haven't connected/added the TM yet, or?

What is the preferred workflow in this case? Can I just open a file directly in the tool and then connect the TM (how?) or do I have to use any of the wizards with some modifications?

Any help is much appreciated.
