Hi! I'm María from Argentina.

I have a problem with Trados. I was working normally on a Word document and suddenly, when I try to open a new TU I cannot do it and I get a message which says that it might be a TU already open. Even if there isn't I press the close button, but of course...there's nothing to close.

Any idea of what could have happened?

Thanks in advance for your help
María

A simple way to solve the problem May 4, 2005

Hello Marea,

You just need to select Fix document under Help menu in MS Word, then close both TM and the working file. Be sure that all word files are closed and also any other TM. Reopen your .doc/.rtf file and the TM, and I know this will work (I hope)

Kind regards,

Ahmad Hassaballa

If the option "Fix document" from Trados menu does not help May 4, 2005

Go to "Insert" "Textmark" (I have german Word, the names may differ) and check, if there are any Text marks with "tw" or similar in the name. If you find some, delete them.
This should help.
If any fixes do not help, restore the original document, translate it (either manually or using the Translate function from Workbench) using your Translation Memory. It is possible, that even this new document will stuck at the same place - if so, simply try to go a sentence or a paragraph furthe

It is possible, that even this new document will stuck at the same place - if so, simply try to go a sentence or a paragraph further. If then translation works, what you need is to copy the untranslated piece of text to a new document, remove ALL formatting and translate it there. Copy it back, restore formatting (if necessary) and go on.

Textmarke = Bookmark May 4, 2005

The menu entry should be labeled "Bookmark" in English versions of MS Word.

NEVER save your document while a TU is open. Always close the current TU, save the document, open the next TU and resume translating. If you save with a TU open and your work is interrupted (Word crashing, document closing unexpectedly, whatever...) your document is in an undefined state where there's a TU open but Trados cannot recognize it (which seems to be precisely the situation described above).
