Trados error message 33353 end para. not found

My ancient Trados (v5) stopped working. When I click on a sentence, I get error message 33353 "end of paragraph not found." This is happening both with new files and old files that worked fine when they were previously translated with Trados. This is regular text not Table of Contents or other code.

If I mark a word and click "concordance" nothing comes up, but I can go into Trados itself, click concordance and paste the word in to get matches. However, if I try to cut and paste fro... See more

I'd appreciate any help. I'm a techo-peasant, so please reply in the simplest terms.

maybe the error sits in the TM Jul 5, 2006

create an empty TM and try to pretranslate into it.

Insert a space before each bracket.
From Word's Tools menu, select Options.
Choose the Edit Tab.
