How to remove source text boxes throughout document?

Hi all,

I have recently started working for an agency which sends me the documents with TRADOS and with the source text in green, then followed by the source text in the target box in black, unless it has a match, in which case the match is inserted.

My problem is: firstly I have to manually delete the target text from the source box every time I want to enter the target text, but secondly and more importantly: as the target box is already full, when I come to a repeated section, as the target box is already full it does not pull up the match, which makes the tool useless apart from using it to make the TM at the end of the project.

I assume there must be a way of fixing the document so the target sections remain empty, but I don't know how to do this and was hoping somebody would be able to help. I would appreciate any suggestions,

Many thanks,

Text boxes or pre-segmentation? Jul 7, 2006

Hi Sarah,
I'm a bit confused - are you really referring to text boxes? From your description, I would assume that you've been given a pre-segmented file, whereby the agency has activated the function to copy source on no-match. This setting only makes sense for translators who don't have Trados.

IMO the easiest way around this is to talk to them, asking them to change the settings on pre-segmentation, or to send you the clean source file with a reference TM (which is what I do when sending out jobs).

HTH, Ralf

I think you're talking about pre-segmented text Jul 7, 2006

If you want to get rid of non-matches in documents that have been completely pre-translated with Wordfast or Trados, I can highly recommend ResetPretrans, a Word macro written by Frank Horváth.

Word macros don't survive, when published in the ProZ forums. I could send you a Word document containing the macro text. You'd have to copy it to the rest of your Word macros. You, and others, can contact me via my profile.

Kind regards,
