Hello, everyone,

I inadvertently translated a whole document with a TM in the wrong language direction open (the TM was ENG-SP, the translation was SP-ENG.)

How can I fix it? What can happen if you have different source and target languages in the same TM?

Thanks!

Nora

Change languages Sep 25, 2006

Hello,

export the tm
Creat a new tm with the deired language combination.
Import the tm.
Open the new untranslated ttx file again and translate to fuzzy.

Regards

I need to separate "right" from "wrong" TUs Sep 25, 2006

Thank you, Hans.

But the problem is that this TM already has thousands of units in the original language direction (ENG-SP) and now a few hundred in the wrong language direction (SP-ENG).

I guess my question is: how can I separate the two?

Thanks!

Nora

Maintenance to find the segments Sep 25, 2006

Couldn't you use the maintenance function to search for all the segments you created for that project? If you know what date you translated the document, you can search for all the segments made on that date and delete the ones that are in the wrong direction.

Let me see if I have it correctly Sep 25, 2006

you have a couple of hundred segments of the following form?
ENG: Spanish content
SP: English content

I would...

1. isolate them in TM by the date - in the sense "everything entered since DD-MM-YY".

2. export the pairs using this information to - say - "wronglang.txt". Delete then those records in TM - they are useless anyhow...

3. Edit the text file and to switch
<TrU>
...
<Seg L=EN_US>corazon espinado
<Seg L=SP>bleeding heart
</TrU>

around to

<TrU>
...
<Seg L=SP>corazon espinado
<Seg L=EN_US>bleeding heart
</TrU>

I do not remember, but it is possible TM expects source first, so you may have to change some more to

<TrU>
...
<Seg L=EN_US>bleeding heart
<Seg L=SP>corazon espinado

</TrU>

4. correct my Spanish (g) and import the resulting Text file.

You may find PlusToyz (a plug in for Word) useful: it makes a two-column table out of a bilingual export file (and back).

Regards

Vito

No need for this: "source can come second"
