Hi,

I just bought the SDL Trados 2006 Freelance. I tried to take advantage of the remote termbase capability, but I cannot get a connection with the server http://multiterm/mtanywhere as explained in the manual. I am using the recommended username visitor and password visitor, or the same with "guest" and can't connect. Trados/SDL support knowledge base has a topic for a similar error message with the same numerals and a slightly different text (it's Answer ID 552), but I am not using any firewalls so it doesn't apply to my case. I hope someone can help...

On a second and related topic, given that I am a newcomer to Trados, I'd like to know in plain terms what should I realistically expect form this "remote termbase" feature. I understand that this feature was created for large corporations to manage their proprietory terminology definitions. However, since the Trados website mentioned above is aimed at individuals, I am here dreaming of public databases which can really be functional for the speeding up of translation work. I mean, are the "remote databases" really functional for everyone or they are just samples upon which each of us must build our own private databases? Are they generic enough to assist general translations, or are they specific for the narrow aims of specific industries?

Thank you so much in advance for your help!

Alvaro

The example in the manual is just that, an example. http://multiterm will not work, as it is an internal name only (notice the missing .com).

In order to connect to a MultiTerm Server, you must either host one yourself or work for a company that hosts one.
Generally if you have the single user version, you use file based Termbases.
