Replace all in Tageditor Thread poster: iamsara

Hi, is there any way to replace a term in all target segments, not only in the open one? Thanks | | | Yes ... in SDL TRADOS 2007! | Apr 19, 2007 |
Yes, SDL TRADOS 2007 TagEditor has an all new Replace Dialog. Just activate the "Search target only" checkbox in the "Replace" dialog. You can also use wildcards now (regular expressions!) and the dialog can even remember your last 20 find and replace actions. My Recommendation: Buy the Update Cheers, *Stefan. | | | Heinrich Pesch Finland Local time: 02:07 Member (2003) Finnish to German + ...
Deselect protection (tools, options, Protection, protect document) and use the replace function. Regards Heinrich | | | iamsara Local time: 01:07 English to Spanish TOPIC STARTER
Thanks Heinrich, but by doing so, the source segments are also affected and I´d like to avoid that... | |

Regards Heinrich If you do this, you will also replace the string in the source segments. The only way to do it is by making a dump (you can either select all the text in TagEditor and paste it in a Word document or pretranaslate your file in TagEditor and creating a new memory with these segments, exporting these segments and opening the txt file in Word) and opening it in Word where you can hide the source segment. | | | iamsara Local time: 01:07 English to Spanish TOPIC STARTER
I´ve noticed so, Heinrich, thanks anyway. Marijke, I don´t understand what you mean: a) select all the text in TagEditor and paste it in a Word document: I presume you would find/replace in Word, right? And then? b) pretranslate your file in TagEditor and creating a new memory with these segments, exporting these segments and opening the txt file in Word) and opening it in Word where you can hide the source segment.: Is it anoth... Marijke, I don´t understand what you mean: a) select all the text in TagEditor and paste it in a Word document: I presume you would find/replace in Word, right? And then? You will find that you can run it straight through the memory. There is a catch because the tags will not have been converted correctly. So you will have to be creative. Try it and play with it first. quote]Dubloc wrote: b) pretranslate your file in TagEditor and creating a new memory with these segments, exporting these segments and opening the txt file in Word) and opening it in Word where you can hide the source segment.: Is it another option? I mark the translation segments in red (you can do this in one go by applying Styles, i.e., define a style that will mark all your translation segments as red by finding and replacing the initial string of your sentence (the one that contains the language definition). Once all your translation segments are red you can find and replace in Word only searching for red text. Again tags may not convert properly. So you will have to play around a bit first to get a feel for what you are doing. This sounds more complicated than what it is. Once you have done it a couple of times, you will find it very easy. I often use this method when I have a TagEditor file with many repetitions. Once you have finished translating or replacing all the strings you want, save the file as a txt file and import into a Trados memory (I always create a new one to ensure I do not get confused) and use it to translate (i.e. pretranslate your segments in TagEditor). | | | To report site rules violations or get help, contact a site moderator: You can also contact site staff by submitting a support request » Replace all in Tageditor Protemos translation business management system | Create your account in minutes, and start working! 3-month trial for agencies, and free for freelancers!
