How does one expand a segment with XML files in TagEditor?

I recently worked on an XML file using Trados Freelance.
I downloaded the ingen2.exe file which is a DTD settings creator from the Trados FAQ website. I had no problems analyzing the XML in Trados and could open it in TagEditor.
However, no matter what I tried, I could not expand segments containing XML tags.
For example, "Click to see XML TAG and XML TAG for more information."
This sentence would be segmented into 3 parts:
- "and"
- "for more information."
In the end, I had to save the file as HTML, translate it as such and then convert it back to XML.
Is there a better way to work with XML files?
I'd be really grateful for help from anyone.

Define tags as intern May 14, 2007

Hello Esther,

When I have this problem, it can be solved by changing the tagtype to intern:
I TagEditor you have to close your file first.
Then choose Tools - DTD-Settings
Choose the ini-file in the list and hit "Edit..."
Then choose the "Elements"-tab.
In this list you must click on the tag which causes the problem in the sentence.
Then hit the "properties.."-button.
Change the type to intern and save the settings.

Open the original file .xml (not .xml.ttx) and open the segment.

I hope this helps!
