Hello!
First, sorry for my bad english.
I have a question about Trados 6.5. I have to translate a lot of excel files and it seems that it does not function with Trados. How can I open Trados in Excel and work with it?
Thanks
Kadu

Try TagEditor May 15, 2007

I am not sure Trados 6.5 handles Excel files. I am now using a newer version Trados 7.5 whch is part of SDL Trados 2006 package and do not remember about Trados 6.5. In Trados 7.5 it works the following way:
1. Open TagEditor and you will be prompted that Trados Workbench is not running. Open the Workbench after receiving the prompt. If you do not have the translation memory which you intend to use with the excel files, create a new one.

3. Open your excel file and translate.
4. After translation run Tools/Clean up/Update TM

If TRados 6.5 handles Excel files this is the only way. As the Workbench itself does not do it alone.

Trados 6.5 Tag Editor works with Excel files May 16, 2007

Alexey is absolutely right, today I was having the same problem (actually, my problem is Trados 6.5 not working with Office 2007 Word files, even if I converted them to 97-2003 files), but it works when you are dealing with excel files using Tag Editor.

The only thing is that I cannot see any box showing the "Type of files", I can only select File/Open ... then the directory window with the file list opens.

If I remember May 16, 2007

Trados 6.5 was only able to import Excel into TagEditor after a certain service pack (something like 6.5.5.438, 6.5.5.439 or perhaps 6.5.5.441). So, what comes after 6.5 in your "About"?

but I have no problems with Excel files in TagEditor 6.5, they are opened without any errors and work fine. I hope you will manage to solve the problem.

Try to get 6.5.5.441 then May 16, 2007

I am not sure which was the exact "breakpoint" one, but I do know that 441 was able to import Excel into TagEditor.

Exactly the same problem with new version May 19, 2007

I have exactly the same problem, but with version 7.5.0.759.

When trying to open an Excel file, I get:

"Failed to create file parser Trados.ExcelFileParser2"

and then:

"(80005): Failed to create parser for plugin file format!".

I only have this problem on my new computer with Windows Vista an Word 2003. On my old computer with XP an Word 2003 it works perfectly.

Change Macro situation? May 19, 2007

Hi, Kadu,
Have you ever tried to adjust macro situation with your excel?
Change macro level can solve this kind of problem sometimes, of course not all of them, but it's worth a try.

A tag settings file has not yet been defined for this document type.
Would you like to specify the settings file now??

Argh - I tried to do the settings bit .. but I had no idea what to click ...

I have uninstalled and reinstalled afresh - but the errors are still there

Any help most welcome

Run a repair installation in compatibility mode for XP Jul 17, 2007

I've had this problem on a couple of computers running Vista. I fixed it by running a repair installation using the updated setup files that were released in February - make sure to run it in compatibility mode. Right click on Setup.exe, click on properties, on the compatibility tab - check Windows XP. Then run the setup as usual. Choose Repair.

Check some xml files Sep 5, 2007

in Program Files-SDL international-T2006_FL-TT:

PluginFileFIlterDefinitions.xml

can it be opened with an XML editor?
does it contain Exel and Powerpoint rows in the FilterDefinitions section?

Excel _1_0_0_0.xml
Excel _2_0_0_0.xml
PowerPoint_1_0_0_0.xml

are they present? can they be opened with an XML editor? what can you see if you open them with such an editor?

Once I was unable to open Excel files with TagEditor until I reinstalled Microsoft .NET and Java. I have no idea if they are still so important in the newer versions, but I suoppose they are.
