I recently installed Trados 7 on my laptop which uses Windows XP. The installation was completed ok without any problems or error messages (using softkey licence) but now, when I try to open Trados in Word it doesn´t do anything but gives me the error message "Translator´s Workbench is not running". It doesn´t even open the translation segments.

I know that this problem has been discussed on the forums before and I read through the ones of interest but couldn´t find a solution for my problem yet.

I´m happy for any suggestions you might have.

Manuela

TM open? May 27, 2007

Have you created or opened a translation memory in TWB?
If you're new to Trados, there are some quite good self-running tutorials included in the installation (or as least there were in version 6.5).

Delete or rename Normal.dot? May 27, 2007

If TWB is running properly with a TM open, maybe your Normal.dot template is corrupted? Try this (taken from the Trados user list):

(1) Close Word.

(2) Locate Word's Normal.dot template and rename it to something like Normal.do_

(3) Re-start Word.

Word creates a blank Normal.dot file, and miraculously, all Trados
functionality will be restored. The drawback is that any macros you had saved in your previous Normal.dot file will be lost, but of course you can salvage them using the Tools > Macros features in Word.

Regards,
David

Maybe you need to install this patch. Emilie seemed to have the same problem as you in another thread.

"I've uninstalled trados 2007 and reinstalled the 882 patch (available in "my downloads" on the trados site), and now it seems to be working... great!"

Workbench version 5.5 Jun 2, 2007

I am using this thread to ask for assistance with a similar problem - I am still using Trados 5.5 and recently installed it under XP. I copied the TRADOS5 template to the word templates file, I created a TM, and workbench does seem to run (all the symbols appear under Word), but when I use the "open/insert button" I get an error message saying I was using a template from an older version (TW4Win2k.dot) but should rather use TRADOS5.dot - but this is exactly the one I copied! I never installed another TRADOS version before 5.5 either.

Many thanks for your help, if anybody can...
Kerstin

Which Word version? Jun 3, 2007

Hi Kerstin,
You did not indicate which Office version you're using...

Could it be that you're trying to run Trados 5.x with Word 2003?

Best regards,
Ralf

T5.x does not support Office 2003 Jun 5, 2007

Hi again,
I'm not 100% sure if this is the cause of your problem, but T5.x did not (fully) support Office 2003.

Best regards,
Ralf

Workbench is not running Jun 28, 2011

Once I found myself in a similar situation.
I found out that nothing like changing the sequence of starting Word and Workbench and even restarting the computer helps. But one thing does:
I closed all Word documents and started Word clicking its shortcut on the desktop.
In the new file a typed a string of characters and opend a segment. It worked.
And after that it worked in all other documents too.
