Trados analysis does not include heathers and footnotes

Hi everyone,

A colleague and myself have analyzed several Word files with Trados. However, we do not reach the same result, since her analysis apparently doesn't include neither headers nor footers.

We are both quite bewildered and we don't know how to change the Trados settings, so that both headers and footers are also included in the analysis.

First of all: it's next to impossible to calibrate two different installations of Trados to give exactly the same word count.

Why? Because the algoritm used by Trados to calculate fuzzies and analyse objects (like headers, text boxes etc) has developed over time.

If you both can verify that you both have exactly the same version and build of Trados, and preferably the same version and build of Office installed, you could try.

If you both can verify that you both have exactly the same version and build of Trados, and preferably the same version and build of Office installed, you could try.

In TWB, go to Options>Translation Memory Options and Term Recognition Options, and walk through every dialog window with your colleague to ensure all settings are identical.
But even then, your results may vary.

Recent versions of Trados DO support headers/footers, so that should only be a problem if you're running old software.

Another workaround is to pretranslate/create a TTX in TagEditor first. The word count of a TTX tend to be more static and uniform over versions, since there is no uncertainty whether objects are excluded or not.

As far as I'm concerned, I've given up the idea of "the perfect word count". It's a wild goose chase, and you'd be better of just accepting that some mysteries can't be explained or understood...
