Some outsourcers require at least Trados 2006. I've got version 7.1. Upgrade is not so cheap. So what's the deal, what makes version 2007 so special?

Trados 7.0, 7.1, 7.5 = Trados 2006, so you have the needed version.

Note: Trados 8.0 = Trados 2007.

Only the part 7.5 = 2006 is true.

A much needed update for those running MS Office 2007 Jun 25, 2007

The new Trados (2007 or 8.0) has a number of new features (especially tag-editor and project creation) , faster and above all it suports the new MS office (2007). If you are running MS office 2003 there is no need for the upgrade.

Actually trados2007 is the same quality as 7.1, no need to worry!

The quality of software is beside the point. Off course the output has the same quality.
The question was whether there is any enhanced functionality that makes it preferrential in an outsourcer's eye.

The two major reasons for an outsourcer demanding T2007 are:

1. They use the project creation feature, and requires the freelancer to install the upgrade to unzip the "project packages"

2. Trados 2007 supports Office 2007 files (.DOCX etc.) which no older version does!
(AFAIK, it is also Vista compatible, but that is probably irrelevant for the outsourcer.)

Really no need to upgrade Jun 25, 2007

Looks like Trados 2007 is tribute to Microsoft's never ending arms race with newer OS and Office versions.
