Workbench says "Different target" - I don't think so.

Formatting differences penalty is set to 0
Placeable differences penalty is set to 0

I open a segment with placeables (tags) in Word.
I close the segment and reopen the same segment.

Workbench says the target is different.

How can this be?

It happens with all segments containing different placeables Oct 17, 2007

Here's an example of a text with the problem:

This is a <strong>bold</strong> word.
This is a <b>bold</b> word.

The translation is done in Word and the tags are formatted with the tw4winInternal style.

When you translate the first segment, it is stored in the memory with the tag as being <strong>, although what you see in the Workbench window is j... See more

Here's an example of a text with the problem:

This is a <strong>bold</strong> word.
This is a <b>bold</b> word.

The translation is done in Word and the tags are formatted with the tw4winInternal style.

When you translate the first segment, it is stored in the memory with the tag as being <strong>, although what you see in the Workbench window is just TAG. This is normal and correct Workbench behaviour.

When you open the next segment, you get a 100% match. Workbench correctly disregards the fact that the tags are different, and even copies the new tag in the correct place in the target sentence. Wonderful.

Now open that second segment again. Workbench now incorrectly claims we have a "different target".

I have had this problem for a long time both in Word and in TagEditor and it is slowing down my proofreading since it stops on 100% matches that DON'T have different targets.

I have tested it on a new Trados installation (latest version) on a new computer and a new memory (with formatting and placeable penalties set to 0), with the exact same result.

If you try my example, what behaviour do you get?

And the attributes are the same as well?

And even if there were, you don't get a "Different target" because of an attributes difference.

Open the second segment. You get a 100% match. Close/Set the segment.

Go back and open the second segment again.

Cannot reproduce Jan 31, 2008

Hi Andre,

I cannnot exactly reproduce this, because I don't have tw4win-internal; my Trados version installed tw4win-mark.

When trying to reproduce this problem in Word or TagEditor, following all your steps, I only get 100% matches. I've tried various other settings, but keep getting 100% matches.

What's your setting for 'apply placeable penalties when source tags differ'?
