My Trados (latest version) doesn't work with Word 2003 under Vista.
From reading several postings I understand that I need to copy the TRADOS7.dot to the word startup file.
I have found several other Trados .dot documents:

TRADOS8.dot Microsoft Word Template
TRADOS8.dotm Microsoft Word Macro-Enabled Template
TRADOS8.dot Bookmark Handler
There is also a Winalign.dot and WritersSupport.dot

Question, I am at a loss: which .dot do I to copy where to exactly? How do I recognize the Word 2003 startup folder, where it apparently has to go?

Hope someone can help me out, I have had Trados on my laptop a couple of months now. The tageditor works great, but for jobs with Word I have had to resort to my old Trados installation on another PC.

Thanks in advance

TRADOS8.dot Dec 11, 2007

shall be copied to the start folder of Word 2003.
If you do not know the start folder, open Word 2003, go to Tools, Options, File location (hope it is called so, my Word is in German) and check the start folder there. Then copy the TRADOS8.dot into it (of course you will need to close Word prior to doing so).

After you've done that, go to SDL Trados program group, localise there a program called "Register ***" and let it run.

This should do the trick.

it must be another problem Dec 11, 2007

Thanks Jerzy,
Indeed, I have found the Word startup file and already found the TRADOS8.dot in place there, to my surprise.
Went to registry, but I get a weird little black screen stating a registry error. However, after choosing the windows Continue command, it does seem to work.
In the Macro section of word, there are no Trados templates.

Could this be a registry problem?

Strange, if the "Register SDL Trados 2007" does not work properly Dec 11, 2007

This seems to be a case for SDL Trados Support.
However, you could try to go to Tools, Templates and Add-ons and try to activate the TRADOS8.dot via this way...

Sorry, no clue why it won't work.

Jerzy

Got it. Dec 11, 2007

Got it to work.
I can not figure out for sure how I did it; turned off User Account Control, for the second time I think. Restarted and registered Trados again, then it worked. If I figure it out for sure, I'll post it here for archive purposes.
I am really amazed.

Windows Vista Dec 11, 2007

Of course, this is what I have forgotten - I do not work with Vista, so that's why. But I've read about the necessity of turning off User Account Control - should have thought about that.
Most certain this was the reason.

Vista Issues Dec 12, 2007

Yes, vista gives me a headache too. Right now my CD-ROM has lost, for reason I do not know. Booting time also increased dramatically. Anyone has any suggestions?

Best regards,
Haiyang
