"shrink segment" doesn't work if sentence ends with superscripts

Hello,
I'm translating a scientific article in MS Word. The article includes many sentences that end with a number formatted as "superscript". This number stands AFTER the full stop, but belongs to the sentence before.
Now Translator's Workbench doesn't recognize the end of the sentence and simply combines sentences. The "shrink segment" shortcut from the Trados menu doesn't work, I've already tried.

Does anybody have an idea how to work around apart from entering hard returns after each sentence?
It works if I process the text in TagEditor, but I still prefer Word as it shows me all the formatting.
Thanks for your help!
Birgit

Apply External style on SS numbers. Dec 17, 2007

Hi,

You can use Find&Replace in Word to apply External style on superscripted numbers.

External style always forces Trados to split TU.
