Hi,
I would like to know if there is any FREE software to download for alignment. I want to create alignment files (.txt) without having to buy TRADOS in order to use WinAlign. A similar programme that does the same job as WinAlign is what I'm looking for.
Can anyone help?
Heather

Give Plustools a try. It's a free alignment tool from the creator of Worfast. www.wordfast.org

Is there a programme purely for alignment Jan 15, 2008

Lots.

Bitext2tmx, Wordfisher, Wordfast PlusTools (still free, AFAIK), the Cypresoft aligner (if you can find it), OmegaT's aligner and bligner, and probably others as well.

Most of these produce .tmx files, but if you really want a plain-text file, you can convert easily, for example using my tmx2txt script.

That's great thanks. What exactly is 'my tmx2txt script' though?

It's here:

www.omegat.org/omegatk/tmx2txt.zip

Read the readme file before using it. If it doesn't work as expected, drop me a line.

Here are some URLs:

* http://www.omegat.org/resources/aligner.zip (requires Python)
* http://www.omegat.org/resources/bligner042.zip (requires Python and/or Perl)
* http://sourceforge.net/projects/bitext2tmx (requires Java)
* http://wordfisher.com/ (requires MS Windows and MS Word)
* http://www.wordfast.com/products_plustools.html (requires MS Word)

Cypresoft's aligner was called "TS2000 Align", if I'm not mistaken. It is abandonware. To use it, you need a serial number. For more information, check out the Yahoogroup "ts2000_users" (also check the Files section).

Recommended! A neat tool back in those days. I really liked this aligner a lot and I think that even today, it would still meet my needs. Tesekür ederim for the link!

TS 2000 Align Jan 16, 2008

Agree fully with Wolfgang. TS 2000 was (is) an exceptionally user friendly alignment tool, much better then e.g., PlusTools which i recommended at first. However, I was not aware that it's still available on the web.
