Hi,

I tried to post this on TW_users, but somehow I can't get my message through...

The following problem occurs in TagEditor SP2 (8.2.0.835) with Vista
and Office 2007 SP1.

Following any customization to the TagEditor's user interface (e.g.
switching off a toolbar in View) and closing the window, the following
message is displayed:

TagEditor:

(-2146233088): Error (OnDisconnection): The RPC server is unavailable.
(Exception from HRESULT: 0x800706BA)

When I open TagEditor again, a message from another application
(probably Word) is displayed which reads (free translation from
Polish):

"Trados8.dotm is locked for editing by user 'Adam'" and there are 3
options to choose from. Regardless of which I choose, TagEditor
starts, but never remembers any customization to the UI.

This may be obvious, but just to give you more background: when trying
to diagnose this, I have noticed that opening TagEditor ALWAYS causes
WINWORD.EXE to start in the background when the Word spell checker
(the old one or the new 2.0) is switched on, even before starting any
spell-checking.

Thanks in advance for helping,
Adam

Word Jan 31, 2008

Hi Adam,

Yes, TagEditor always opens Word in the background when you launch it, if you have the Word spellchecking plugin activated: it's actually loading the plugin while launching.

RPC server errors seem to be linked to Windows itself, but I really wouldn't know. Did the problem also occur before installing the Trados SP2?

Hello Marie-Claudeicon_smile.gif

Thanks for responding, and good you are asking about this, as I forgot to mention this in the first place: no, this error has started occurring only since I installed Trados SP2.

Adam

Knowledge base Jan 31, 2008

I'll have a look in the knowledge base if there are any known problems following installation of SP2. I think I saw a topic related to problems with SP2 (yesterday? the day before?) in the ProZ forums, don't know if it's a problem similar to yours, though.

I haven't installed SP2 on my own computer yet, and I think I'll wait a bit before I do it!icon_wink.gif

Edit: I didn't find anything in the KB. And it was a topic about MultiTerm SP1, sorryicon_wink.gif

solution (or the lack thereof :P) Jan 31, 2008

I received a response from TW_users group. This problem is known and has been described in the release notes:

"Before using the new Microsoft Word Spelling Checker 2.0 plug-in in TagEditor in combination with Microsoft Word 2007, SDL recommends exiting any visible instance of Microsoft Word 2007, including Microsoft Outlook, before starting to use TagEditor and the plug-in for spell checking documents. If you do not do this, you may run into Microsoft Word 2007 error messages about .dotm files being locked and in use. These error messages, which can be cancelled without affecting the functionality of the spell checking plug-in, point to a known bug in Microsoft Word 2007 that has been reported to Microsoft and that may be fixed in a future service pack release of Word 2007. This issue does not occur when using the plug-in with earlier versions of Microsoft Word."

So, basically, no solution apart from refraining from starting any Office application before or during TagEditor session. Shame. No mention of the inability to save any TagEditor preferences, but this must be related... or is it?

Marie-Claude, thank you anyway!icon_smile.gif

Workaround Jun 4, 2009

Hi all

I discovered a workaround for when this messages appears when attempting to spell check a Tageditor file.

1) in Tageditor, go into Tools - Plug-ins
2) if 'Microsoft Word Spelling Checker 2.0' is checked, check 'Word Spelling Checker' instead and click on OK
3) then check 'Microsoft Word Spelling Checker 2.0' again and click on OK

The spell check should then work.

Great quick fix, thank you.
