Hi everyone,

Q: Can SDL Trados 2006 Freelance run on Windows Vista platform?

My concern is raised because of what is said below from the SDL Trados 2006 Release Notes:
...
Platforms

* SDL Trados 2006 runs under Windows 2000 and Windows XP. Earlier operating system generations such as Windows NT and Windows 98 are no longer supported.

Not officially Feb 12, 2008

Hi Harry,

officially SDL trados does not support Windows Vista because it was created before Vista. However, you might want to try the method proposed in another thread (http://www.proz.com/topic/66324) to solve the problem, which is due to the license management system of SDL Trados.
Hope it works!

Hi Harry,

Even though officially it is not supported I ran it with Vista for ages with no problems at all before upgrading to 2007.

Regards,

Nicole

Thank you for the links and reassurance Feb 13, 2008

Thanks Annelise and Nicole.

I need to reassure myself before migrating from XP to Vista.

the real question is... Feb 13, 2008

why upgrade to vista anyway? do you really need it? will it increase your productivity at all? or is it just following the trend?
the fact is many people want to 'downgrade' to xp.

Well, I thought needed the assurance since I'm getting a new hardware and I think Vista is the 'trend' not because we want to but because we "have to" just like having a new Trados.

I am comfortable with XP. I prefer the "for life attitude" but we can't. It's just that everything is now always has to be the newest one or else we'll be left out i.e. no support etc.

Just my two pence. Cheers bro
