G'day everyone

Am I the only one to see that ProZ.com has a pink background colour today? What gives?

Samuel

Not here Nov 22, 2011

Not even after putting on my rose-tinted glasses, Samuelicon_wink.gif

There had been a similar issue not too many days ago, which had to do with a broken stylesheet (my own guess), but there was no word from ProZ staff whatsoever:
http://www.proz.com/forum/general_technical_issues/211591-proz_profile_page_only_shows_up_as_words_no_pics_no_format_etc.html

Did you try with another browser?

If you happen to use Firefox, you might want to check this:

http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Website%20colors%20are%20wrong

But then AFAIR you're sufficiently tech-savvy to know about this already(?).

Good luck!

Weird. I tried three browsers, and they're all pink.

Your screen dump looks fine (not pink) to me Nov 22, 2011

Is it just the ProZ site, or is every site coming up pink on your side?

Only ProZ.com. In fact, this box in which I type this message is white, not pink. Other sites have their natural colours, too. Anyway, it doesn't matter... I'll just get used to it.

I see the pink background Nov 22, 2011

Samuel's background in his screenshot is indeed pink. Samuel, I wonder what color settings you may have on your computer at the moment.

Looks pink to me Nov 22, 2011

From my viewpoint / on my screen, your screenshot background looks definitely pink-ish, Samuel, and very different from when I view your profile in either of my browsers (Firefox + a Webkit based browser, on Linux, brand new screen), where the background colour is very light grey (as it should be IMHO).

Could this possibly be some kind of colour management problem, e.g. a bug under the Windows display color config dialog? -- Not likely, I know, but ...

Curious and curiouser.

Maybe your computer needs an exorcist Nov 23, 2011

"Your computer may be possessed by a demon!

SAVANNAH, Ga. — Your computer may be possessed by a demon, a leading minister warns.

“While the Computer Age has ushered in many advances, it has also opened yet another door through which Lucifer and his minions can enter and corrupt men’s souls,” said the Reverend Jim Peasboro, author of an upcoming book, The Devil in the Machine. Demons are able to possess anything with a brain, from a chicken to a human being. And today’s thinking machines have enough space on their hard drives to accommodate Satan or his pals. “Any PC built after 1985 has the storage capacity to house an evil spirit,” the minister confirmed."

Abrenuntias satanae?

If demons are capable of possessing computers, then this explains a lot......

TRADOS must be the devil's greatest achievement yet!

Pink glasses Nov 23, 2011

Samuel - In that screen shot only the frames of your glasses are pink. Nothing else. They make you look very trendy and creative. You should go to Milan and walk around for a while.

WWOTS (I just made that up. It means "while we're on the subject") I've never liked the yellow, green, blue, khaki, and burgundy colour scheme of the Proz website. I hope someone will rethink it, at some point.

But pink? I don't see pink. I think the Devil must be targeting you personally. I've heard He does that.

No pink here on the western front - still the usual yellow and green.
Yes, Samuel's specs look pink in the screenshot he attached, but nothing else. Very stylish - keep them that way, Samuel.
Surely the devil in the machine would make the website red, not pink? Perhaps it's only a junior devil - at the moment.
Tempting fate,
Jenny

Maybe it's a she-devil from Essex.

(British joke. Sorry).

seriously though - I can't see any pink using Apple Safari or Firefox. I haven't tried any other browsers. Maybe you're just "seeing red" Samuel.

I really hope they do rethink the colour scheme, or allow us to customize it ourselves, as the current colours just make it look drab.

Maybe I should say a prayer?icon_smile.gif

Not just aesthetics Nov 23, 2011

It's a graphic design thing. Each of the colours used on this site is a code and refers to a specific function. In that sense the site works extremely well. For such a complex website it is remarkably easy to navigate. So I wouldn't want to mess with the colour functionality. The different colours interact well and help the user to focus on what's important to them.

It's just that the whole colour palette looks drab. Even though "drab" is better than "glaring and hard on the eyes" I do hope that at some point, the colour palette may be rethought, perhaps in a range of gentle tones in the blue/green/grey range?
