...for the cranially challenged (i.e. me) - what does the general majority suggest for freelance (first) buyers - should I buy Trados 5. or Deja Vu? Of course, there is a certain price difference to be considered... Does anybody know of Deja Vu \"special offers\"? I\'ve worked with both in the past but am unsure which one to use as Deja Vu seemed easier to access, but more clients seem to ask for Trados. Any suggestions gratefully received...

... go with DV because it also supports Trados Workbench files, but not the other way around. The same is true of SDLX. In general, both DV and SDLX support more - and more common - file formats than Trados. DV and SDLX allow for faster project setup, etc.
Every software package comes with glitches - it\'s the nature of the beast, as it were - but with Trados, you\'ll encounter a lot more of these than with DV or SDLX.
My verdict: buy DV or SDLX
