Thunderbird date display settings personalization

I started using Mozilla Thunderbird email recently and it has the following date display settings as "Default" - 12/05/2008 where 12 is the 12th day, 05 is the month of May, and 2008 is the year (of email receipt). I like Thunderbird quite a lot, but this date display format is VERY inconvenient for me as I am used to yyyy/mm/dd, and especially inconvenient when I want to group numerous emails by date received. E.g. where 12/06/2008 will be shown as an earlier received email compared to 14/05/2008. I have tried to search "Help", but apart from useless functions like personalization of email display (like colours, etc.), never managed to find the date display personalization settings.

Can someone suggest me how to change the date format at Mozilla Thunderbird to yyyy/mm/dd or similar more logical format? Thanks in advance for your assistance and advice.
