Hello,

I'm re-designing my website as I recently moved my hosting on a new domain. As I'm not an experienced webdesigner, I have trouble with my tables space within the tables
see: http://www.villalingua.com/Nederlands.htm

I tried to delete rows & colums, but it got worser as I tried to fit everything together... I tried to change the format of the tables, but it didn't help...

Can anybody explain my how to delete the 'useless' space between the objects & texts? How to get control over them?

Thank you very much

Joris

remove "& nbsp;" characters Aug 24, 2005

Hi Joris

Dreamweaver (at least in the version I have) inserts blank spaces into all table cells when you create a table. If you insert text into these, the blank spaces aren't generally an issue. If you're trying to use the table as a design element, however, they tend to get in the way. You can remove these easy enough by first positioning the cursor on one of the table cells which won't behave. Then press the F10 key to go into text edit mode. The cursor should now be positioned on the cell (in the HTML code) - something like: & nbsp;*. Simply delete the & nbsp; text (this is the html code for a blank space). Take care not to delete the tags, of course.

*Note: I inserted the space between the & and nbsp characters so that you could see what I was talking about. Otherwise, a only blank space is displayed.

Hope this helps.

Chris

Trouble with blank vs. written text spaces in tables/cells Aug 25, 2005

Hello,

Thank you for your quick reply. I think I didn't explain my problem very well. I have trouble with the blank spaces WITHIN the space cells (tables). As I write in those cells, the cells becomes bigger and bigger and I seems impossible to reduce its size. I aim a compact table structure with text inserted where want... Deleting the nbsp; code reduces the table content of non-written tables, but I'm looking for a way to get control over my written tables.. Thank you anyway, in the meantime I'll try to fix the problem, but you have suggestions you're welcome as I'm a very beginner user of Dreamweaver MX...

Thanks!

set the table width to a fixed size Aug 25, 2005

Now I understand: try setting the table and the columns in that table to a fixed width. That will look something like:

Cell-positioning problem resolved Aug 27, 2005

Thank you. The main problem was I didn't know how to 'push up' my cells saving space into other cells, but I've found it at last. Using the Horizont. / vertical. posiion of the cell, it moves to tho top or bottom, it that was the main problem. First I thought it was due to the size of the cell.

Thank you for your help!

Joris
