Unicode

I need software that supports Unicode compatible Bangla (Bengali) writing, editing and can convert any Bangla font into Unicode font and also can check Bangla spelling. Is there any such software? I heard that Proshikanet in Bangladesh developed such software but that is very costly and I am not sure how user friendly it is. So can anyone suggest me in this regard? I am even ready to buy such software in reasonable price.

Bangla/Bengali is supported in OpenOffice:

OpenOffice is available for both MS Windows and Linux.

Changing a non-Unicode font to a Unicode one may prove to be insurmountable or at least expensive.

Yours is a tall order! I don't think any software exists as of now which can do all that you ask.

But as Roomy has pointed out, WindowsXP has support for all Indian languages. So on a WindowsXP platform using MSWord, you can work comfortably in Bangla.

But even this combination will not convert legacy fonts into Unicode for you.

For this you may resort to the TBIL Convertor, a freeware available for download

This one can convert from several legacy fonts into Unicode.

Obviously it won't be able to handle all the legacy fonts in Bangla but only a few.
