I was wondering if any of the translators' teams or agencies you know is using web-based collaboration applications? They seem like a perfect tool for exchanging ideas, queries, files etc. and for keeping up with the news on the project, yet I have not seen anyone using them - most agencies seem to rely on the not-so-efficient "to whom it may concern" email floods...
