Opening INX in Pagemaker? Thread poster: Jan Sundström

Hi all, I wonder if I can deliver an INX file to a client that only has Pagemaker 7 installed. Will she be able to open it? I don't see any option to "Export as Pagemaker" in my InDesign, so I wonder if there is any way to make the data backwards compatible?! AFAIK there is no backward compatibility in InDesign, even between the various versions of the same software. Recently I contacted SDL Trados support regarding some issues in the inx process and was told, that inx by CS3 is different as inx by CS2 and it is possible, that inx from CS3 will not be opened in CS2. But I've never heard or seen a possibility to go back to Pagemaker. But OTOH buying a Pagemaker is so cheap these days (round 130 Euro), so I would simply buy the software, if... Hi Jerzy, thanks for your feedback! I wouldn't take SDL's word for the truth here. According to Adobe, the INX format can be opened between all the InDesign versions, that's the entire purpose of having an interchange format. Although it's true that features implemented in later versions like CS3 will be lost when opening the INX in an older InDesign version. Jerzy This won't help me here. The client already has Pagemaker installed, but I want to be able to deliver a document that emanates from InDesign. So you're saying there's no way to migrate a file from InDesign to PM, short of copy/pasting between the two programs?! /Jan | | | Uldis Liepkalns Latvia Local time: 23:47 Member (2003) English to Latvian + ... And even worst- the next booklet we have to produce is originally made in Illustrator- to paste 8 000 translated words into Illustrator (grrr...- you know, pasting a translated paragraph into Illustrator pastes it in a single line ending some 20 meters to the right beyond your screen... ) Any solution there? to position the text in a PM layout. So you would have to save the text in InDesign as such and then position it in PM. But InDesign offers you to save tagged text - maybe with some playing with those tags one could translate them (I mean tags of course) to Pagemaker tags. This will certainly go together with how complicated the layout is, but maybe it is possible.
