[Subtitling Rates] Subtitling tarif per minute ? Thread poster: Sophie Marette

Hello! An agency is asking me to give them my price per minute! I've got no idea about this, what is the range of prices ? Is there a trap somewhere ? By the way, I'm based in the UK and the agency also is (I think).

I have been doing subtitling work for quite some time, and I have always quoted on a per-minute basis, irrespective of whether I do the actual subtitling myself (i.e., the in and out time queues) or just the translation of a script for subtitling. Of course, one charges more for the actual subtitling than for the so-called subsequent translation, but this is another matter... Good luck. Andrei

... reputable companies will pay USD 3.00-5.00 per min. I would be suspicious of any offer lower than that. Best of luck!

3-5 dollars per minute, translation only, is very well paid... it won't be subtitling, it will be translation FOR subtitling. Luck.

But what price should I ask for ? Juan, you mean if I ask for $5 per minute for subtitling, it's too much ? Sophie

In my experience, the rates per minute go from $5 to $7 USD. Even at that rate, you'll find it's not very much per word. Best, Esther

It is not much per word, true, but you also get paid for all the film time without words (action/love sequences, montage sequences, etc.). Subtitle translation is a well-paid and fun sector of our field, it would be great if you got your foot in the door! HTH
