Subtitling Companies in NYC Thread poster: Martina Tomassini

Hello everybody, I'm a freelance translator with a couple of years of experience. I'm planning to apply for an internship at a subtitling company because I'm very keen on this translation field. Since I'm moving to NYC in the future I'm searching for subtitling companies there: can you help me with that? Of course, I've tried the search engine option but it doesn't seem to yield the expected results. Thanks a lot in advance! All suggestions are welcome:-) | | | Khaled Elmancy United Kingdom Local time: 00:14 Member (2012) English to Arabic + ...

See more I am a Platinum member of ProZ.com. dotSUB has been in beta for several weeks with a browser based tool that enables the subtitling of any film from one language to any other language on the fly, in real time, at no cost, from any browser without any downloads. We have 6 short films on our beta site, including a music video, a 1941 Superman animation, a 30 second UN Public Service Announcement and a 60 second Japanese short made for cell phones - and between these 6 films they have been subtitled in over 30 different languages in the past few weeks. The UN PSA created by the Unity Foundation has been subtitled in 17 languages itself - Abkhazian, Arabic, Catalan, Chinese, Czech, French, German, Hebrew, Italian, Japanese, Kinyaunda, Portuguese - Brazilian, Portuguese - Portugal, Romanian, Spanish and Swedish. Feel free to look at our site http://dotsub.com/ - take the demo and then look at the pull down menu above each of the six films as they are playing to choose which language version you prefer to view. I am sure your initial visit to the site will raise more questions than answers. We hope that our approach to subtitling will, in the long term, create an entire new income stream for translators. However, it will take time to educate the marketplace, filmmakers, as well as translators, about this paradigm shifting concept. We look forward to an active discussion with any interested ProZ.com translators. Sincerely, Michael L.
