How can I get more work as a subtitler

Hi everybody,

I have been working as a subtitler for a company for about three years now but never get enough work in to actually be able and do only that. I do enjoy this work very much and would love to make a living off it (as I understand from reading through the forum I am also not one of the best paid).

Is there any other way of getting more work in somehow or being hired by companies other than sending out your CV hoping that one day they will contact you? Oh, an... See more

Is there any other way of getting more work in somehow or being hired by companies other than sending out your CV hoping that one day they will contact you? Oh, and I was also wondering, is it a smart thing to mention list some company names like Warner, Sony etc. on your CV (companies that you have indirectly worked for through your agency). I mean just mentioning the names of the company and not the actual copyrighted movie...

My language pairs are English-German, Italian-German.
I would be happy to receive some feedback!

Hello Anja,

I'm not a very experienced translator on this area, but you can try TV channels in your country and also some enterprises that commercialises DVD movies. Try to contact them directly, presenting your services by e-mail, and some days latter contact them by phone to really know their needs. Maybe you can get important information there.
